Saturday Night F00tball
Saturday NIght Football is Back! So Am I!
Phew, I didn't know what to do with out another Saturday of no football. Last week was a killer after the college slate ended.
So here we are Mid-December.
Must Win for the 'boys.
What A Stage!
What a Matchup!
Tampa is coming off 7 straight L's . . .
Couldn't ask for more. Well, except for a missed field goal by Dallas to end the game.
Dallas sits here as a 7 point road favorite. Tampa has the 27th ranked pass defense with a cute 28th rush defense to match. Listen, Romo will have the passing game in hands. Tampa will struggle, especially if they fail to win any significant battles in the special teams game. I would say this has the classic Romolapse waiting to happen late in the 4th quarter, especially given the must win scenario. However, Tamap Bay has done nothing imppressive with the ball in the past few weeks and I do not for see a dominant performance from the Tampa O.
Dallas vs. @Tampa Bay (+7)
The Pick: Dallas
While you are too bored waiting around for Sunday's games to start take a listen to Rich Eisen's Podcast. I will have a profile later this week. As well as picks tomorrow.

Baseball PhD Podcast: MLB Realignment
Yes, I know it is hockey season and you are all fidgeting in your seats awaiting more NFL picks. BUT I am a baseball fan at heart and this is just an issue that must put forth. REALIGNMENT. Yes, just recently the Houston Astros have agreed to be sold on the terms that they will be moved to the American League. While I admire MLB's idea to make both the American and National Leagues have an equal amount of teams, 15, I do, however disagree with this move. When it comes to realignment they might as well tear it all up and create divisions that will create more natural rivalries. I mean come on why are the Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants not in the same division given their proximity and success of the Bay Bridge series. Why don't we get this all year round like Yankees vs. Red Sox.After going back to a podcast that was recorded this summer, by Baseball PhD, I couldn't help but come up with my own ideas on how the realignment should work.
Take in mind that the Designated Hitter will be eliminated.
With six divisions each team will play each division opponent 14 times.
They will also play each other team in baseball in one four game series.
- alternating home and away each year
This comes out to a total of 156 games.
Yes, we are eliminating the 162 game schedule, offering more off days for the players and making more room for postponed games.
Each division will send their top seed to the playoffs.
The next best four records will play in a three game series (wild card round).
The winners will face the #1 and #2 seeds in the second round.
This will be followed by a semi-finals and then World Series, which has the possibility of having the two best teams, record wise, in the World Series every year.
Here are my new divisions.
Northeast
Boston Red Sox
New York Mets
New York Yankees
Philadelphia Phillies
Pittsburgh Pirates
Atlantic Coast
Baltimore Orioles
Washington Nationals
Atlanta Braves
Miami Marlins
Tampa Bay Rays
Great Lakes
Toronto Blue Jays
Minnesota Twins
Milwaukee Brewers
Detroit Tigers
Cleveland Indians
Great Plains
Chicago Cubs
Chicago White Sox
St. Louis Cardinals
Cincinnati Reds
Kansas City Royals
California
San Francisco Giants
Oakland A's
Los Angeles Dodgers
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
San Diego Padres
Western
Seattle Mariners
Texas Rangers
Houston Astros
Colorado Rockies
Arizona Diamondbacks
I love this. More rivalries. Higher Attendance. More intensity. More Hype.
No reason for MLB not to look into this.
DO YOU AGREE? DISAGREE? I would love to hear what everyone has to say.

Stuff You Should Know

Have I ever wondered what it is i am squeezing when I play with silly putty? (sidenote: silly putty is still as fun to squeeze at age 20 as it was in pre-school) yes. Have I ever walked into a casino an wondered what the f*ck is going on? yeah. Have I sat in astonishment when my uncle describes driving on the autobahn, but wondered why on earth they let people go so fast? YES! YES! I have.
And I still would be wondering these things today if it were not for the Stuff You Should Know podcast. Hosted by Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant...these two curious men release two podcasts a week about interesting stuff that you know, but might not really know.
And they dig Deeeep. For real some of these podcast can go on for 45 minutes about ABSURD topics.
CAN YOU SWEAT COLORS? WHAT IS NOODLING? (noodling is sticking your arm in a catfish hole and waiting for it to latch on for a catch.) Sorry I couldn't contain myself I just needed to let you know. Well yeah! Interesting Facts! Info! Mystery! Fun!

This American Life: The Right to Remain Silent

Halloween weekend is upon us and there is no doubt in my mind that you will hear about someone being in a situation that involves the 5-0. Yeah that's right we are talking about the Police. When the final pumpkin has been smashed and you wake up to November, MY GOD THE YEAR IS ZIPPING BY!, you will have at least one connection to a police involvement.
*To the older generations: Just ask one of your grandchildren or kids form the neighborhood, this is no longer your Dad's Halloween. This generation likes to get down.
I am still a college student here in Boston, MA and mark my word, escalated police enforcement this weekend is a mortal lock, just like my NFL picks, you can take that to the bank.
So if you do get involved in some late night mischief and find yourself in a sticky situation remember your rights. I found a fun little podcast about two guys who fought against the law, and unlike The Clash they won. These two unique, engaging stories dive into the corruption at the police station and unlawful behavior by officers.
Don't Lose The Fight With The Law This Halloween Weekend
This podcast is This American Life hosted by Ira Glass, has been running this radio show since 1995, and since has made it podcast compatible. Be sure to check out his other episodes, which are all stop what your doing and listen quality. You know the drill subscribe, download, and pop the headphones in.
Play hard, but be safe this halloween.

The B.S. Report: Week 7 NFL Picks

Football Fans. Sports Fans. Gather Round. . . Well I mean at least open up your itunes and subscribe to the BS report. Bill Simmons, the host, walks you through the latest in all of sports by bringing on a bevy of guests who open up on this show unlike anywhere else. Simply put there is no where else where you can feel as if the CEO of Ticketmaster, NBA General Managers and athletes are whispering sweet nothings into your ear. Heck even David Stern the Commissioner of the NBA and now part-time plantation owner (That ones on you Bryant Gumbel) has been on the show. WHERE ELSE ARE YOU GONNA FIND THAT?!?! You download and the man just drenches you with unique sports knowledge. get wet.
- In this week's podcast Simmons and Cousin Sal, a frequent guest, break down what they think the Vegas Lines will be for the upcoming Weekend of NFL. They make one of these every week of the NFL season. I couldn't help but make my own picks, maybe I will do one of these each week to get a nice flow going. Here are my picks, forget the brokers, screw wall st., getting a job is too tough, thus follow me to millions.
Seahawks have won two of three. Lost a tight one to ATL, Beat the Giants on the road. Coming off a bye week. They are getting three points. And playing the browns . . . bing, bang, boom.
THE PICK: Seattle
@ Detroit vs. Atlanta +3.5
Tough one. Detroit is coming off their 1st loss. ATL has been confusing all year. I expect a rebound for MEGAtron and co.
THE PICK: Detroit
@ Tennessee vs. Houston +3
Who though these two teams would be battling for the AFC South crown? . . .
THE PICK: Tennessee
@ Miami vs. Denver +3
Two thoughts. Miami has no wins. Tim Tebow is the man.
THE PICK: Denver
San Diego vs. @ New York Jets +2
San Diego vs. @ New York Jets +2
The Jets need this one bad. Really Bad. Does Sexy Rexy Pull through? HELL NO. Daygo by a field goal.
THE PICK: San Diego
Chicago vs. @ Tampa Bay +1
Tampa loses by 45 one week. Then beats the Saints the following week. Toss up as the game is in London.
THE PICK: Chicago
@ Carolina vs. Washington +2.5
Is the Cam Newton train running out of steam? The skins are staring John Beck. Yikes. Somehow Washington has managed to win a handful of games this year, but with Beck at QB i am just unsure.
THE PICK: Cam Newton.. err..Carolina
@ Oakland vs. Kansas City +3.5
THE PICK: Oakland (Greg's Guarantee)
Pittsburgh vs. @ Arizona +3.5
Pittsburgh has gotta have some heart here, only a 3.5 favorite against the lowly cards.
THE PICK: Pittsburgh
@ Dallas vs. St. Louis +13
I dislike these double digit lines. Dallas is good but Romo loves the drama. Dallas wins. But close.
THE PICK: St. Louis
Green Bay vs. @ Minnesota +8
THE PICK: Green Bay
@ New Orleans vs. Indianapolis +14
Yikes. Does INDY win a game this year?
THE PICK: New Orleans
Baltimore vs. @ Jacksonville +7.5
Not even going to be close.
Not even going to be close.
THE PICK: Baltimore

Occupy What?!?

#OccupyWallSt
What does that even mean? I have seen what is going on in downtown Boston. Large rallies, tons of signs and angry, angry people. But what is it that they really want? Like I am 100% sure . . .er. . . 99% (I hear that is their favorite number) sure that no one can explain exactly what these protestors want. You can't just take out corporations, which supply just about everything we own. Right?
Well it turns out they want more than just the cleansing of Wall St. and the corporations. They want a voice. America was built on a democracy of the people. The citizens are supposed to be the ones making the decisions for the best of the country and right now it seems as if this so called 1% have not only a majority of our countries money, but a louder voice than the 99% and that is just not fair. Yes, some people work harder than others and deserve a larger paycheck. But that doesn't entitle them to make our countries important decisions and sway lobbyists simply because of their job title. At least that is what I think. But I have no more power than you. Read the paper. Talk to people, and most importantly formulate your own opinion on the matter. Because your ideas just as important as mine.
However, I recommend you start off by listening to one of my Columbus Day podcasts, courtesy of NPR.

If college football is a popular water cooler topic on Mondays then The Solid Verbal files into the category of must listen to during your morning commute. Hosted by Ty Hildenbradt (Oregon 05') and Dan Rubenstein (Penn State 04') The Solid Verbal records a sarcastically informative podcast twice a week. First previewing the weekend's upcoming action and then following up with a recap of all the major events. Reaching listeners since the 2008 season The Solid Verbal is the highest rated college football podcast on itunes.
What I enjoyed while listening to the show is that they are able to focus on the mainstream schools, such as everyone in the SEC and Notre Dame, but still give love to small schools who may not attract an enormous media following. If your school, big or small, does something special on Saturday you are guaranteed to hear about it on The Solid Verbal.
So if you want to know all about the hype surrounding this week's upcoming battles on the gridiron or have a new perspective once all the action is over then you must download the The Solid Verbal, which can be found on itunes or better yet on their website, www.solidverbal.com
